Use AI to investigate your visibility with a little more structure. A starting checklist, four prompts and a record you can come back to.
No email required. No report purchase required. This is a starting guide, not a complete SEO course or a promise of leads.
THE FIRST INVESTIGATION
01
Choose a real customer question.
Write a question about your service and location, then a separate one using your business name. “Who builds custom homes in Denver?” and “What can you tell me about [business]?” ask different things. Record the exact wording, platform, date and search setting.
02
Keep the answer. Then interpret it.
Save the full answer, cited sources and businesses named. Note non-answers. Being absent from one answer is not proof that customers cannot find you. Your manual check is a sample, and is not directly comparable to a differently configured API assessment.
03
Investigate one useful question.
Does your service page clearly explain what you actually do, where you work and what supports your claims? Confirm the business facts. Look for a real gap that matters to a person using the page. Do not invent reviews, credentials or project examples.
04
Ask AI to help. Check its work.
Use one of the prompts below with facts you can verify. Share only material you have permission to share. Leave out personal customer information, credentials and private report links. Review suggestions before publishing or changing settings.
05
Write down the decision. Compare later.
Record the evidence, investigation, chosen change, responsible person and date. Keep questions consistent for later comparisons. A changed answer does not establish that your edit caused it. Track actual customer enquiries and sales separately.
ILLUSTRATIVE WORKSHEET / NOT A MEASURED RESULT
What this looks like in practice.
Observation
One recorded answer names other roofers for a city-specific question.
What it does not prove
That our business never appears, that we lost a customer, or that our service page caused the absence.
Investigation
Check that our page accurately states the roofing services and area we actually cover. Compare it with real customer questions.
Possible action
If a useful fact is missing, draft an accurate improvement and have the business owner review it.
Next review
Record what changed and when. Compare later answers while keeping leads and sales as separate measures.
COPY. FILL IN. CHECK.
Four prompts to work from.
Good AI practice keeps evidence visible. These prompts ask for missing information instead of filling gaps.
01 / Read a finding without overclaiming
Paste a small, non-sensitive extract from a report—not a private report access link.
Help me interpret this AI visibility finding for [business/service/market]. Use only the evidence I paste below. Separate: (1) what was directly observed, (2) plausible explanations that remain unproven, and (3) what to check next. Keep the dates, question wording, denominators and missing responses. Do not infer lost customers, ranking causes or universal visibility. Ask for missing information rather than inventing it.
Finding and recorded answers: [paste extract]
02 / Find what a useful service page is missing
Provide the actual page text and facts you can substantiate. Review any suggestion before publishing.
I run [business] serving [market]. Our customers ask [real questions]. Review the page text below for clarity and usefulness. Identify unanswered customer questions, ambiguous service/location information and claims needing evidence. Suggest changes using only the supplied facts. Do not invent projects, qualifications, reviews, prices or guarantees. Label anything needing my confirmation. Do not promise a ranking or AI citation.

03 / Turn one recommendation into a small work plan
Choose one recommendation you understand. Keep technical changes subject to review by the person responsible for the site.
Turn this recommendation into a small investigation plan for [business]. Start by stating the evidence and what it does NOT establish. Give me: the first check, what would confirm a real issue, a proposed change only if justified, who should review it, and a way to verify the change did what we intended. Include risk and rollback notes for technical changes. Separate implementation success from later AI answer changes.

04 / Explain the next monthly comparison honestly
Use the same questions where possible. Include missing answers and any configuration differences.
Compare these two dated sets of recorded AI answers. Preserve the question wording, counts, sample sizes, platform configurations and missing responses. List what changed, what stayed similar and what is not comparable. Separately list website work we recorded; do not claim it caused an answer change. End with three questions for our next review. Use plain language suitable for a business owner or agency client.
